Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock recently spent time at Colfax Elementary to visit with students and help prepare backpacks filled with food for them to take home over the weekend. More than 90% of Colfax students receive a free or reduced-price meal at school — and thanks to Blessings in a Backpack, 50 students receive a backpack every Friday filled with food that they can eat and share with their family over the weekend. After more than a dozen challenges from schools, teachers, colleagues, and even US Senator Michael Bennet, Denver Public Schools Superintendent Tom Boasberg took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Boasberg joined Colfax Elementary School teachers, staff and Principal Elle Conger-Milnes on a late Summer afternoon for the challenge.
