Tiger Tales September 24th

Dear Colfax Families,
I hope you are enjoying these last few warm days! I am excited to share that all second-fifth graders will take a Literacy and Math Achievement Network (ANet) interim assessment the first week of October. Our teachers have been working hard to prepare your students for these assessments and we can’t wait to dig into the results to see how students are progressing towards mastery of grade level content standards and modify our classroom instruction to better support students. Tiger Tales September 18th

Dear Colfax Families,
As I shared in the last Tiger Tales, our enrollment, like many schools in northwest Denver, was down this year. Our Collaborative School Committee, made up of parents, teachers, paraprofessionals, community members and school leaders, met last Thursday and decided to seek budget assistance from the district for our budget deficit. We found out this week that we did not receive the full amount we had requested. As a CSC, we collaboratively decided which positions we would reduce if we did not receive this assistance and so unfortunately, we will be reducing two teaching positions, one 3rd grade ELA-E and one 1st/2nd grade ELA-E Math, though this will allow us to still maintain great class sizes in these grade levels. Tiger Tales Sept. 10th

Dear Colfax Families,
I hope to see many of you at our Staff vs. 5th grade football game tomorrow at Sloan’s Lake (our field was re-seeded and should be ready to be used again at the end of the month). We’ll get started around 3:30 right near Tennyson St. and 17th. Please join us for a great time!
Also, our Collaborative School Committee (CSC) will be meeting this afternoon. We’ll be discussing how many students the district projected we would have, and how many students have enrolled here. Like many northwest schools, we have not met our projections so we’ll be discussing our priorities and will need to adjust our budget. We know that we’ll have to make some reductions in budget that may impact staff and we’ll let you know as soon as possible of any changes that need to be made. [Read more…]
