Dear Colfax Families,
I hope you had a wonderful spring break with your child(ren)! I spent time relaxing with my family watching movies, going to the mountains and visiting family. I always enjoy spending lots of time with them during breaks. I spend so much time with them that they are always ready for me to go back to work. Teenagers!
We were so excited to welcome back our Colfax students from the spring break! It was great to see their excitement to come back as well. There were a lot of smiling faces and students telling me that they were happy to back to school.
As most of you are aware, we were so fortunate to receive bond money to remodel our school gymnasium. We now have new floors, newly painted walls, and a climbing wall! Before the break I promised them that there would be one more surprise in the gym when they returned. On Tuesday morning, we unveiled a mural featuring our new Colfax Tiger. As you know, a little over a month ago we had our community (students, staff and parents) vote for a new design of our school mascot. The white tiger was overwhelming selected. It was amazing to hear and see our students’ excitement when we pulled down the curtain! The artist, Pat Milbery from Creative Division, will be joining us at this Friday’s Morning Meeting to share how he and his crew designed this fantastic mural. He is a very popular muralist that has many works of arts throughout Denver, including the on 7th and Santa Fe right outside of the Mexican restaurant El Noa Noa. We would love to have you join us to welcome him and thank him.
Believe it or not we only have two months of school left. There is still lots to do and learn! Additionally, we have many fun activities planned. Please ensure to have students here every day to make each day count. Also ensure to look for upcoming events in Tiger Tales, the Colfax Facebook page and App. Please reach out to the office with any questions.
CMAS/PARCC testing for 3-5th grade is around the corner. These important assessments will be happening when we return from spring break. Please help ensure our students are on time every day and appointments are scheduled around the testing days. Students are welcome to have breakfast in the classroom on TESTING DAYS from 7:30-8:10. Students will be provided a breakfast from the cafeteria. Meals are different than what is available in the cafeteria but are still nutritious and delicious. Students also have the choice to eat in the cafeteria and then join their peers in classroom after eating the meal offered in the cafeteria. We will celebrate students who are on time for testing with a daily ice cream treat! The intermediate team will also be celebrating students every day for their hard work during testing. We will be sharing what these daily rewards are with students at our PARCC Pep Rally on April 6th at 2:00pm in the gym. Parents are welcome to join!
