Dear Colfax Families,
I have been really enjoying to get to know students, parents and staff! My favorite part of the day is greeting and talking with students. They always have great questions and great things to share. Jackie, the assistant principal, and I have been going to classrooms to wish students a happy new school year. We have also taken advantage of this time to read them a story and have some great conversations!
One of the great things I really value about our great school is how intentional we are in celebrating students. They are recognized in Friday morning meetings, from 8:15-8:30. I hope you can join us throughout the school year! This year I am also asking teachers to support students in celebrating themselves and at the same time building intrinsic motivation with the “I’m proud of myself” pass. Students are sent to the office when they want to share something they are proud of that they did (academics or citizenship) with either myself, Jackie, or our wonderful secretaries Nadine and Angelica. We give them a special pencil to continue the great work in their class!
We will be having Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 7th from 4:00-6:00. All students whose parents attend this night will get a “no uniform Friday” pass. They will get to dress in their everyday clothes on the following Friday, September 8th. Please read on for more details. We look forward to seeing everyone at this informative and fun night!
