Enrichment Opportunities

Enrichment opportunities are provided through The Neighborhood Center at Colfax Elementary. At the Center, students, parents, families, staff and community members can enroll in free classes provided by DPS community partners. These classes are scheduled based on the needs of the Colfax community.

Student Programs

Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. Boys at Colfax are able to participate in Boy Scouts after school through the Neighborhood Center.

Chess Club

Monday, 3:15 – 4:15 p.m.
Grades: Kindergarten – 5th
The chess team is a great way for students to use the full capacity of your thought process. Chess teaches students to think before you move or act and encourages students to take a risk. Chess prepares students for 2 tournaments each year where they compete against other students in DPS. This club is provided through the after school program.

Discovery Link

Monday – Friday, 3 – 6 p.m.
Grades: K – 2nd and 3rd – 5th
A fee-based program that provides academic support, health and fitness programming, community building and a safe, fun and engaging atmosphere for Colfax students. Discovery Link provides snacks and dinner to registered students. Students in this program are inspired, engaged and having fun!

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver

Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate gender, economic, and social barriers. Programs are research-based and delivered by trained, mentoring professionals in a positive all-girl environment. Students participate in sports, science, technology, economics, math, self-defense and jump rope activities.

Leadership Educational Assistance Program

Thursdays, 3:15 – 4:15 p.m.
Grades: 2nd – 5th
The Leadership Educational Assistance Program (L.E.A.P.) is an after-school scouting program for all students ages 7-16 years old. It is designed by the National Boy Scout office for youth in diverse communities. L.E.A.P. builds self-esteem, socialization skills and values through scouting.

Sticky Fingers Cooking

Sticky Fingers Cooking has encouraged thousands of young chefs to explore exciting new tastes and learn kid-safe culinary skills that they can put to use in family kitchens! Colfax students can enroll in this program after school through the Neighborhood Center.

Whiz Kids Tutoring

Whiz Kids’ mission is to help improve the lives of disadvantaged elementary and middle school kids through academic tutoring, positive mentoring relationships and spiritual nurture. Many Colfax students receive tutoring from community volunteers to improve their academic skills.
