Day of the Dead is a traditional celebration that commemorates life after death by honoring family members who have passed away. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a two-day festival that takes place every November 1 and 2. It is originally a Mexican tradition, however Dia de los Muertos is also celebrated throughout Latin America and everywhere with a Latino population. The festival has been celebrated in different ways for centuries to honor the lives of ancestors and celebrate the joy of life.
At Colfax we would like to share this celebration of life with all our students. Over the next 2 weeks, the school will be making an altar in commemoration of the loved ones who have left. If your family would like to participate, please send your student with either a photo or an article (an object that was special to that person) for the altar. Be sure to tag the article or photo with the student’s name and grade level so we can return it to your family between November 3rd – 5th.
