About Me:

My name is Carmen A. Cano. I am from Peru and I have been working in Denver Public Schools for 17 years. Teaching is my Passion. I have held different positions in DPS. I have been an ELA-S Paraprofessional supporting all grades from K-12th grade, as well as being the Translator and Interpreter for Parent Teacher Conferences and school events. I have been a Parent Liaison and a Kindergarten ELA-S Teacher. I am currently an ECE-ELA/E Paraprofessional and love working with “My Little Babies” as I call them. I love helping them develop their confidence and increasing their self-esteem, “seeing the lights in their eyes when they bloom or learning something new”; while instilling in them to be responsible for their actions, learn to share, be supportive and have compassion towards their other classmates. At the same time, I believe that they need structure, learn to follow the rules, respect the opinions of others and use their own words when they disagree. I LOVE WORKING WITH MY BABIES!

Mi nombre es Carmen A. Cano. Soy de Perú y he trabajado en las Escuelas Públicas de Denver desde hace 17 años. Enseñar es mi Pasión. He tenido diferentes posiciones en DPS. About Me:

I am from Buffalo, NY and have been living in Denver for the past 5 years. I actually came to Denver because I got hired at Colfax! I graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with 2 bachelor degrees in Women Studies and Geology (random, I know!), then spent a few years teaching English in South Korea. I’ve always had an inkling that I wanted to be a teacher, but teaching in Korea really solidified that. When I returned to the US, I received my masters in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Buffalo State.

I live with my husband, daughter, and small dog in Northwest Denver. I love to spend time walking around our local park, exploring Denver with friends, running in my neighborhood, and skiing in the winter. We always try to spend our summers traveling!

This is my sixth year at Colfax Elementary. I teach ECE which I absolutely love! The brain expands so much from birth to age five and I am so lucky to be able to work with students during these critical years in their lives. It is important for me to not only instill a love for learning in my students, but to strengthen their social emotional skills as well. I always strive to create a positive, fun, and safe environment for my kiddos.

About Me:

While I was still in school in Brazil to become a teacher, I had my first job as a teacher assistant in ECE. I then taught Portuguese in Brazil in middle school, ESL for adults, and was a teacher for 1st and 2nd grade. I went back to ECE because it is my happy place and that is where I like to be.  I am starting my 6th year at Colfax and found my other happy place here, which is a pretty good combination.

I am from Brazil, graduated with a degree in Language and Literacy Education, with a specialization in Early Childhood Education. I completed my ECE equivalency here in Denver at the Community College of Denver and graduated from CU Denver with a MA in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education.

Classroom Wish List:

That depends, but good books and extra clothes are always welcomed.

Hello,

My name is Veronica. I am originally from Cd. Juarez Chihuahua Mexico, but I was raised in El Paso Texas. I moved to Colorado 23 years ago and my older son started preschool here at Colfax Elementary. I’ve been working here at Colfax Elementary for 22 years. I started working here because my older son came here and I wanted something that would allow me to be out the same days he had off. I started working when he was in kindergarten. While working, I went to school and I became a Medical Assistant but I realized that my passion was to work with children so I stayed at Colfax. Two years later I gave birth to my second child who came here, too. Now I am starting over, but with my grandkids.

Classroom Wish List:
