Hi! My name is Mirian Fonseca. I graduated from UCLA and have been teaching for 6 years. I am originally from California and I am new to Denver. My family is from Guanajuato. Due to their impoverished living circumstances and family responsibilities in Mexico, my parents did not have the opportunity to study beyond elementary school. In search of better opportunities, they immigrated to the United States. Throughout my childhood, my parents framed education as an escape hatch and a necessary means to succeed in America. However, my home and school worlds were separate from one another because of differing languages, cultures and expectations. The social ties between my familial and educational aspirations would have been stronger through common language and I look forward to being able to bring that insight to the classroom. As a social justice educator, I will pave the path for diverse and vibrant communities to critically analyze and mobilize existing opportunities in the public system, and eventually contribute new voices to make that system even better. I look forward to working with all of you.

¡Hola!

About Me:

Hello! My name is Anthony Johnson but you can call me ‘Mr. Tony’ or just Tony. I am grateful to be a part of the Colfax Elementary community with you and your students. The opportunity I have each year, each day, and each moment to cultivate a flourishing environment is what brings me back to the classroom!

I began my career as an educator in preschools around the Denver metro area, and then decided to continue my own education at the UCD downtown. I became infatuated with the ever-evolving field of teaching and learning. I have been with DPS in various roles including being a paraprofessional in multiple schools, a student teacher and now a classroom teacher. I love that I have settled close to home and with a great staff that supports me, so that I can in turn effectively guide each student to success.

As an educator I will strive to make sure that your family feels confident that your student will become successful and grow everyday. It is very important that we communicate about all aspects of being a student and a part of our classroom.  Besides seeing you at pickup at the end of the day, the most important avenue of communication is Class Dojo.  It is an app on your phone that allows for communication with me.  I set office hours for after school in which I can be available in person, on the phone, or a video conference. Thank you for choosing Colfax, I cannot wait to share the inspiration of your student’s potential with your family.
